Glendale Memorial, Serving the Community for over 80 Years
For over eighty years, Glendale Memorial Hospital and Health Center has grown along with the community and has evolved into one of the region's premier healthcare providers. On January 13, 1926, Glendale Memorial opened as Physicians and Surgeons Hospital, thanks to six Glendale community members who had a vision to expand healthcare services to the residents of south Glendale. On October 11, 1938, the hospital became incorporated as a non-profit institution. Opening originally with forty-seven beds, the hospital expanded to 110 beds in 1942.
During and after World War II the hospital served a rapidly growing community, including Glendale, the Crescenta-Canada Valley, Burbank, and the eastern end of the San Fernando Valley corridor. In 1957 the hospital expanded to 220 beds, and an intensive care unit was added in 1958.
The Physicians and Surgeons Hospital, which changed its name to Memorial Hospital of Glendale in 1955, had grown from its original forty-seven beds to 310 in 1972. The hospital is now an impressive 334-bed facility, expanding over three city blocks. Glendale Memorial Hospital offers primary service lines in heart, cancer, spine and women's health.
